شرق بلژیک، آلتو آدیجه، آلزاس، لورن و جنوب دانمارک و … به رسمیت شناخته می شود.

زبان آلمانی بعد از انگلیسی دومین
زبان استفاده شده در اسناد رسمی، و بعد از انگلیسی و روسی سومین زبان استفاده شده در تارنماهای اینترنتی می باشد.

همچنین طبق تحقیقات انجام
شده یک دهم کل کتاب هایی که هر سال در کل
جهان نگارش می شوند به این
زبان می باشند.

کشور آلمان بیش از 80 میلیون نفر جمعیت دارد که 93 درصد آن ها آلمانی و مابقی
اتباع خارجی هستند. زبان رسمی کشور
آلمان زبان آلمانی است و 95 درصد مردم آلمان به همین زبان و یا گویش هایی از این زبان صحبت می کنند.

زبان آلمانی شامل دو گویش اصلی آلمانی بالا و آلمانی پایین و همانند انگلیسی دارای تعداد زیادی از گویش‌های فرعی است.
بر اساس این زبان، زبان معیاری با نام آلمانی معیار وجود دارد که بیش‌تر به آلمانی بالا
شبیه است، به خارجی‌ها آموزش
داده می‌شود و نوعی زبان میانجی است.
بخشی از کلمات زبان آلمانی ریشه در زبان‌های لاتین و یونانی دارد و قسمت کوچکی نیز از فرانسوی و انگلیسی به عاریه
گرفته شده‌است.

تنوع در زبان آلمانی:
زبان آلمانی با گویش ها و لهجه
های خاصی در نقاط مختلف اروپا مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد.
این گویش ها عبارتند از:

آلمانی والا یا عالی:
زبان آلمانی والا در قرن 16 میلادی
به وجود آمد و به عنوان زبان ادبی استاندارد شناخته
شد. مارتین لوتر در سال 1534 ترجمه کتاب مقدس را به پایان رساند که آغازی در شکل
گیری این زبان می باشد. زبانی
که او در کتابش استفاده کرد بر پایه
زبان آلمانی بود که آن زمان صحبت می شد.

آلمانی – سوئیسی:
این نوع از زبان آلمانی توسط 4 میلیون نفر در سوئیس به کار برده می
شود و گاهی در برخی از رمان ها، روزنامه ها،
نامه ها و دفتر یادداشت ها مشاهده می
شود.

آلمانی – پنسیلوانیا:
این نوع از زبان آلمانی توسط 250 هزار نفر در پنسیلوانیا، اوهایو و ایندیانا در ایالات متحده
و اونتاریو در کانادا مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد.
